About Department
The Department of Zoology was established in the year 1967
to cater to the needs of rural and urban students. Vision
of the department is to provide students with sound knowledge
and understanding the theoretical concepts and laboratory
practices in the frontiers of animal sciences. The mission
is to impart comprehensive knowledge and extensive training
in the areas of zoology. To train and guide students the department
has witnessed many well-qualified and experienced teaching
faculty (Assistant/Associates professors) and trained guest
faculties. In the 60 years of its existence, the department
is credited for producing several under-graduate students.
Its alumni are doing exceptionally well as teachers and most
of them have been placed in decent employment in diverse areas. The
academic training imparted to the department’s B.Sc.
students, equips them to enter Master degree programs of leading
institutes in the country and abroad. The department has made
remarkable strides during the past 60 years and is committed
to continue working hard for excellence in science.
From, September 2021 onwards the Department witnesstwo young
well qualified faculties to train the students in teaching
and learning process. In addition, formerly two non-teaching
support staff, one laboratory assistant, and one menial staff
are present for the smooth functioning of the department.
Presently, the Department chairperson is Dr.Gururaja K M.sc
P.hD.
• Besides teaching, we are helping students to hone
up teaching skills through regular seminars.
The department has two well equipped laboratories to impart
practical training to students.
The department has hundred and odd library books donated by
eminent retire faculties from various colleges.
• Apart from teaching, the faculty members are making
substantial contribution to the University system in various
capacities.
• To further strengthen teaching and research in the
Department, an extensive renovation and up-gradation of teaching
and research laboratories have been undertaken.
Studying Zoology
Zoology is one of the most interdisciplinary subjects in science.
Ecologists, physiologists, developmental biologists, geneticists,and
evolutionary biologists, make up the staff at Zoology. As
a result, there is considerable flexibility in the choice
of Zoology courses you can take.

We also recommend students to recognise the
importance of developing a solid science background (not only
in zoology but also in subjects such as chemistry, physics,
Botany) and mathematical, statistical, and computing skills
by opting open elective subjects as per New National Educational
Policy- 2020
